Nowadays, the journalist is a commonly a one man show. They are on their own, witnessing the story, getting the facts, recording the news, and snapping the pictures. I am learning that a journalist has to be quick and willing to do what it takes be the first one to get the shot.
Photojournalism is the process of story telling using the medium of photography as your main story telling device. My first assignment in my photojournalism college course focused on portrait photos. As someone who has never used a camera other than the iPhone, this was for sure a challenge. I totally felt like the fish out of water when it came to learning how to use a Cannon EOS digital camera. Having to adjust shutter speed and the lighting exposure is something that takes practice, and I am just beginning. Here are the first photos I have ever taken and published on a professional camera. These all convey something special about some of the people in my life. (:
